Gary Fleming serves as the Risk Engineering Practice Leader at Ryan Specialty Renewables. He is a leader with more than 40 years’ experience in property, machinery breakdown and power generation risk assessment. Gary leads a team focused on helping clients identify, understand and mitigate complex risk across a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Over the past 14 years, Gary has specialized in renewable and emerging power technologies, including onshore and offshore wind, solar, battery energy storage systems, geothermal, bioenergy, hydrogen, fuel cells and data centers. His earlier experience as a Senior Power Engineer with Allianz included extensive work with conventional power generation, including steam and gas turbines, hydroelectric, biomass and biofuel technologies.
Gary works closely with underwriters, insureds and brokers to develop practical risk management solutions for some of the industry’s most significant exposures, including wildfire, flood, hail and wind, wind turbine lighting protection, battery energy fire risk and renewable power operations and maintenance.
He also contributes his technical expertise to IEC 61400 standards related to wind turbine blade operations and maintenance, transportation and lightning protection. Gary and his team regularly share their expertise through industry presentations and technical guidance via White Papers on renewable energy technologies, natural catastrophe exposures and risk mitigation and building resilient energy facilities.
