Josh Shimali serves as Head of London Market Underwriting at Ryan Specialty Renewables and brings over 15 years of experience in the renewable energy market. Having previously held positions of Head of International -Renewables and former Head of Onshore Underwriting at GCube, part of Tokio Marine GX. With more than a decade of experience focused exclusively on renewable energy risks, across both MGU and carrier platforms, Josh has played a key role in growing and managing international renewable energy portfolios, leading underwriting teams, and delivering sustainable, profitable growth for the business.
Having progressed through underwriting, senior underwriting, and leadership roles within his career, Josh has developed deep expertise across onshore wind, solar PV, and energy storage technologies globally, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by developers, investors, lenders, operators, and contractors throughout the renewable energy lifecycle.
In his leadership roles, Josh has been responsible for underwriting strategy, portfolio management, international market development, and fostering long-term relationships with brokers and clients worldwide. He is recognized for combining technical underwriting expertise with a commercial approach that helps renewable energy businesses manage complex risks while supporting the global energy transition.
